Unsuccessful Prevention of Drone Attack on US Base: Last Minute World News
The Wall Street Journal: Insufficient Interception Caused by Another US UAV
The repercussions of the recent unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attack on the US base on the Jordan-Syria border continue to be investigated. According to the Wall Street Journal, unnamed US officials have made evaluations about the deadly UAV attack on the US base.
The officials stated that the failure to intercept a one-way UAV launched from Iraq towards the US base on the Syria-Jordan border was due to the confusion caused by another US UAV returning to the base at the same time. This made it difficult to distinguish between “enemy and friend,” complicating the interception efforts.
In addition, a US defense official shared that there is no evidence to indicate that Iran directed the attack that resulted in the deaths of 3 US soldiers and injured 34 others.
US President Joe Biden first announced the tragic news in a written statement from the White House, expressing his condolences for the loss of lives and injuries. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that 25 people were initially injured in the attack, and later updated the number of injured to 34.
Biden and other US officials have held Iran-backed groups responsible for the attack, vowing that the US will respond at a time and place of its choosing. However, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kenani rejected the allegations, stating that “Resistance forces in the region do not receive instructions from Iran in their decisions and actions.”
Investigations into the UAV attack are ongoing as the US mourns the loss of its soldiers and seeks justice for the victims.
