The Uzbekistan Olympic Team Earns Historic First Point in Tokyo 2020
The Uzbekistan Olympic team made history at the Paris-2024 Olympics by earning its first-ever point in Olympic competition. Despite this achievement, the team’s journey in the tournament came to an end after finishing in 4th place in their group.
The team, led by Timur Kapadze, faced tough competition in the group stage, losing their first two matches against Spain and Egypt. However, in the 3rd round of the group stage, they managed to secure a point after a hard-fought 1-1 draw with their opponents.
In the 51st minute of the match, Uzbekistan found themselves trailing after a penalty was awarded to the opposing team following a foul by Abduqodir Husainov. However, in the 58th minute, substitute Eldor Shomurodov provided an assist to Alisher Odilov, who scored the equalizer, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
Despite their efforts, Uzbekistan’s draw was not enough to secure a spot in the playoffs, as they finished in 4th place in the group. In the other group match, Spain lost to Egypt, allowing Egypt to advance to the playoffs while Spain secured the 2nd place in the group.
Although the Uzbekistan Olympic team may not have advanced further in the tournament, their achievement of earning their first point in Olympic history is a momentous occasion for the team and the country. The team can now look towards future competitions with optimism and continue to make strides in Olympic competition.
