Akpa Urges Immediate Resolution to Human Crisis in Gaza – BRTK
In a recent session of the General Assembly on January 28, 2025, Akpa accepted the report and decision made by Dutch rapportector Saskia Kluit regarding the urgent need to address the humanitarian crisis affecting women, children, and hostages in Gaza.
The decision highlighted the devastating impact of Israel’s attacks on Gaza since October 7, 2023, which caused an unimaginable human crisis, especially affecting innocent women and children. Akpa called for the enforcement of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas and urged all parties to take the necessary steps towards achieving permanent peace in the region.
UBP Deputy Oguzhan Hasipoglu, Chairman of the AKPA Delegation, closely followed the discussion and voting process for the Gaza report, sitting alongside Palestinian deputy and diplomat, Bernard Sabella and Ahmed Abuhashish in the Council of Europe.
The proposal to address the human crisis in Gaza was overwhelmingly accepted with 90 yes votes and 18 no votes in parliament. Speakers highlighted the harrowing experiences of individuals in the region, with reports of children losing limbs daily, widespread bombings over 15 months, and a significant number of women and children losing their lives.
Following the approval of the report, Hasipoğlu emphasized the importance of achieving real peace in Palestine for the reconstruction of lives and homes. Palestinian representatives expressed gratitude for the support from AKPA delegations of the TRNC and the Republic of Turkey, underscoring the need for solidarity in pursuing a two-state solution model. The approval of the report marks a new era for Palestinians, granting them the opportunity to live in peace and rebuild their communities.
As efforts continue to address the ongoing crisis in Gaza, it is crucial for all countries, especially Turkey, to support Palestinian women and children in ending their nomadic existence and achieving lasting peace in the region.
