Breaking News: YK, Suspect in School Principal Oktugan’s Murder, Arrested
A tragic incident took place in Eyüpsultan on May 7, where a foreign student, identified only as YK (17), allegedly shot and seriously injured the school principal, İbrahim Oktugan, who ultimately passed away. The incident stemmed from YK’s expulsion from the private high school he attended and the animosity between him and the principal due to a previous argument.
Following the incident, YK was apprehended and subsequently taken into custody. After completing the necessary procedures at the police station, YK was transferred to the Istanbul Palace of Justice in Çağlayan. Upon giving a statement to the Prosecutor’s Office, YK was arrested and sent to prison by the on-duty judgeship on the charge of ‘deliberately killing a person because of his public duty.’

Despite initially intending to confront the principal without lethal intent, YK resorted to using the gun he had purchased, resulting in the fatal outcome. Following the shooting, YK disposed of the weapon and his phone in the Alibeyköy Dam.
