Court Sentences Doctors for Death of Girl at Dentist’s

Bishkek – 24.kg news agency reported that the Oktyabrsky District Court has delivered a sentence in the case of the tragic death of a three-year-old girl at the dentist’s office. The dentist, responsible for the incident, has been sentenced to 5.5 years in prison with a two-year deprivation of the right to practice medicine. The anesthesiologist involved received a six-year prison sentence with a similar ban on practicing medicine for two years. Additionally, the dentist’s husband was found guilty of aiding in the forgery of documents and was sentenced to five years in prison. The director of the medical center where the incident occurred was also handed a 5.5-year prison sentence with three years of probation.

The director of the dental clinic, however, was found not guilty and acquitted of any charges. All convicted individuals were ordered to pay a joint compensation for moral and material damages to the affected party.

The three-year-old girl tragically passed away at the dental clinic of the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy on December 18, 2023, after receiving general anesthesia. The incident led to a criminal case being opened, initially under the charge of improper performance of professional duties, later changing to intentional causing of serious bodily harm.

The court’s decision highlights the importance of upholding medical standards and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients in healthcare facilities.
