Kazakhstan Launches First Drilling Operation at New Oilfield

Embamunaigas, a subsidiary of KazMunayGas (KMG), has commenced drilling the first exploratory well at the Taisoigan site in the Atyrau Region, as reported by KMG’s press service on Jan. 8.

The Taisoigan site, situated within the Caspian sedimentary basin, consists of Mesozoic suprasalt structures. By the end of 2025, eight structures at depths ranging from 400 to 3,800 meters will be drilled based on a large-scale 3D seismic survey covering 5,600 square kilometers.

All subsoil use operations at the site are carried out in compliance with Kazakhstan’s legislation and environmental requirements. KMG’s geological exploration projects have the goal of discovering hydrocarbons and bolstering Kazakhstan’s resource base, particularly in regions with mature fields facing natural reserve depletion.

Exploration of the Taisoigan site is significant in enhancing the energy potential and economic stability of the Atyrau Region. Previous discoveries near the area include the Uaz, Uaz North, Kondybai, and other deposits.

The drilling activities at the Taisoigan site represent a step towards furthering Kazakhstan’s position in the oil and gas industry, contributing to the country’s economic growth and energy security.
