Planting a Sapling for Mazlum Mercan Monument Forest – BRTK
A forest memorial was established in honor of the late Mazlum Mercan, a prominent figure in the Lefke region. The initiative was taken by the Lefke Environment and Ecology Association, along with Mazlum Mercan’s relatives, to plant saplings in his name.
Tamer Dayıoğlu, the President of the association, explained that the decision to create a memorial forest was made to pay tribute to Mazlum Mercan’s love for nature and his strong commitment to environmental protection. He emphasized that the forest would not only serve as a tribute to Mercan but also as a way to promote environmental awareness and sustainability in the community.
Mazlum Mercan, who passed away in 2022, was a well-respected teacher in Lefke for many years. He was also actively involved in local sports clubs and the municipality, where he worked on various projects to preserve the environment and promote cultural heritage.
Reflecting on Mercan’s legacy, his friend Şükrü Hasan highlighted the important lessons learned from their friendship, emphasizing the values of love and respect that Mazlum Mercan embodied.
The establishment of the memorial forest stands as a lasting tribute to Mazlum Mercan’s contributions to Lefke and his unwavering dedication to environmental conservation and community development.
