President Erdoğan meets with Hamas leader Haniyeh to discuss Gaza ceasefire
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan recently had a phone conversation with Hamas Political Bureau Chairman Ismail Haniyeh before a cabinet meeting, where they discussed efforts to end conflicts and violence in Gaza. Following the meeting, President Erdoğan expressed his support for Hamas’s decision to accept a ceasefire proposal, emphasizing the need for Israel to also take steps towards a permanent ceasefire.
In a statement after the cabinet meeting, President Erdoğan called on all parties, particularly Western countries, to pressure Israel to agree to a ceasefire. He welcomed Hamas’s acceptance of the ceasefire proposal, but urged Israel to follow suit.
Meanwhile, it was announced that Hamas had accepted a ceasefire offer from Egypt and Qatar in Gaza. Hamas Political Bureau Chairman Ismail Haniyeh approved the proposal during a phone call with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and Egyptian Intelligence Agency Head Abbas Kamel. A Hamas official stated that “the ball is now in Israel’s court” after accepting the ceasefire offer.
The details of the ceasefire offer have not been disclosed, but Israeli press reports suggest that the conditions accepted by Hamas may differ from those accepted by Israel. The ceasefire negotiations between Hamas and Israel are ongoing as both parties work towards securing peace in the region.
