Territorial Reform Results in More Than 3,000 Layoffs

Bishkek, June 11, 2024 – In a recent meeting of the Committee on Constitutional Legislation, State Structure, Judicial, Legal Issues, and Regulations of the Parliament, First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Adylbek Kasymaliev, announced that 3,928 municipal employees will be laid off. Currently, there are 8,696 municipal employees working in the territorial bodies of the country.
Kasymaliev stated that after the reduction of aiyl aimaks due to their merger, only 4,768 employees will remain employed. This restructuring will result in a saving of 1,796 million soms per year for the republican budget. The number of aiyl aimaks in the republic will be reduced from 452 to 235 after the administrative territorial reform.
